Curtis Huff

Managing Partner

Curtis Huff is the co-founder of Intervale Capital, a private equity fund that focuses on investments in small to mid-sized technology based oilfield products and services companies.   Intervale’s approach is to combine traditional buy-outs of companies with new technologies and products through growth capital to achieve above average returns.

 

Mr. Huff has been involved in the energy industry throughout his career, having served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Grant Prideco, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Weatherford International and as a partner in the international law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP specializing in M&A and securities law.

 

Over his career, Mr Huff has been involved in hundreds of acquisitions in the energy industry.   He was involved in the early development of the underbalanced and managed pressure drilling segments of the industry and championed “intelligent” drill pipe while at Grant Prideco.  Most recently, Mr. Huff through Intervale and his personal investment fund, Freebird Partners, he has been involved in the commercialization of new technologies for subsea production, drilling and downhole completions.

 

Mr. Huff currently serves as the Lead Director and Corporate Governance Chair of Patterson UTI Energy, one of the largest US land drillers, and serves as an advisory board member at the Cameron School of Business at the University of St. Thomas, Houston.  

 

Curtis is a former Chair of the Texas Business Law Section of the Texas State Bar, Chairman of the Texas Business Law Foundation and Chair of the Corporations Law Committee of the Business Law Section.  He is also active with Casa Juan Diego, a local immigrant shelter.  Mr. Huff earned a B.A. (Economics and Political Science) and a J.D., with honors, from the University of New Mexico, and an L.L.M., from New York University.   

 

Mr. Huff will be speaking on private equity investments in the energy sector and the role of technology as a differentiator.
